Essential Beard Maintenance

Below are a few tips for getting your beard to the level it should be. Try these tips for ensuring you look your best always.

Just be patient

An amazing beard is the result of practising patience and tolerance. The first few weeks would be a test and it is important to resist any craving to trim your beard. Simply leave your beard untouched for the first 4-6 weeks. This important phase will ensure the follicles grow evenly. Bear in mind that some hairs grow faster (or slower) than others. Once this phase has passed and your beard is long enough, pick a style that suits its length and thickness.

Select your beard shape in comparison to your face shape

It’s quite important to choose a beard shape that complements your face shape and is in sync with the natural geometry of your face. Do this and you will stand a better chance of looking good.

Square Face

Keep hair fuller on the chin, shorter on the sides.

Round Face

Grow hair longer on the bottom, shorter on the sides. Beard Styles Round Facial Hair

Oblong or Rectangular Face

Keep the sides fuller, and the bottom shorter.

Oval Face

Oval faces are a middle ground between the other shapes, so most styles will work well. Beard Styles Oval Facial Hair

Trim your beard at the right time

Maintenance of the beard is essential even if you would like to grow it out completely. There is nothing worse than an untidy beard, so remember to prune your beard. Draw some cash from the ATM to buy a quality hair trimmer and try to get the right trimming technique to suit your face.

Wash your beard

Apart from ensuring your beard is clean from dust, soot and grime, it’s important to do wash your beard to clean dead skin cells which can cause the dreaded beard itch. Scrub your beard several times each week with a specialized cleanser like The Gentleman’s Beard Wash, then gently pat it dry. Don’t forget that excessive towelling can lead to frizz and split ends!

Apply Beard Oil

The best looking beards out there have regular treatments of beard oil applied to them daily, twice in fact. Beard oil significantly tames a beard and softens follicles like never before. Although there are many varieties to choose from, select a beard oil with premium ingredients. Look out for ones that contain PURE Moroccan Argan Oil and not cheap substitutes. Try this, you’ll thank me later.

Train Your Beard

Many guys go off to the barber once a week for some maintenance but this is far too long to wait to groom ones beard. Yes, a trim may maintain the beards shape, but a daily combing and brushing with a comb or beard brush will detangle those stubborn hairs and train them to grow in a downward direction. For the serious guys try a beard wax or balm as we call it, to really control your stray hairs.

Fuel Up

You can’t build a house without bricks, and the same applies to facial hair. Your beard is made from protein and fat, but it’s also heavily reliant on Vitamins B5, B3, and B9. That means lean meats, nuts, egg yolks, milk, and plenty of leafy greens. If you’re seriously committed, you can also round out your diet with some supplements to fuel your beard growth. Believe it or not, there is actually a beard growth supplement out there!
